The Blend
Mind & Memory explores traditional approaches to attention and mental stamina. It brings together the Ayurvedic pair of bacopa and gotu kola, lion's mane from East Asian practice, rhodiola from the northern latitudes, schisandra, sage, and the polygala root that appears in Chinese formulas for the same purpose.
The bottle is earthy and savoury, with sage very much in charge. It is written for long afternoons rather than for the ten minutes before a deadline.
Traditionally Associated With
Bacopa, gotu kola, lion's mane, rhodiola, schisandra, sage and polygala each carry histories in their own traditions associated with memory, concentration, mental fatigue and cognitive wellness. These are records of traditional use, not evidence that this blend improves cognition or prevents decline.

Botanical Wisdom
Sage, and the old garden proverb
There is a medieval Latin rhyme that asks why a man should die when sage grows in his garden. It was a joke and a genuine belief at once, and it explains why sage turns up in so many old household books — for memory, for the mouth, for the nerves. The botanical name comes from salvare, to save, which is a remarkable thing for a shrubby kitchen herb to have earned.
A Note from the Herbalist
“I keep this next to my desk and take it before I start writing, mostly so I stop opening a new tab instead. Some days it works. Some days I simply enjoy having paused before the day gets away from me.”
